The Grand Canyon : A Perspective-Changer

This picture is a lie  It pretends to capture the Grand Canyon.  But nothing short of standing on its rim, as I just did a week or so ago, can capture the depth and immensity of what the Colorado River carved over millions of years, one splash at a time. Peering down at the ant-sized hikers clawing their way down its trails with ice cleats on their shoes, I couldn’t help but feel small. molecular, in the grand scheme of things.   Maybe the Grand Canyon needs to be the screensaver for 2009.  A reminder that we are small but that change happens one small splash at a time.
